Chapter 11

Fatigue Setting In

“Well the last few weeks we have gone all over the ridge along Baley hill on the Derbyshire side right to the stepping stones. We’ve explored every inch of the path from Dovedale to Milldale. We entered the Dove Holes as well as Reynard’s Cave. There was nothing of the ground that looked disturbed other than those holes left by those mean treasure hunte

We know one of the clues was that he was buried under a bed of rocks, but no stones were found that looked unnaturally placed. We have done the big hill and grazing fields on the Dovedale side toward Stanshope.

We have been threatened and chased on two occasions most likely by treasure hunters that don't want anyone else to find the Saxon Hoard. This exploring was taking a toll on all of us and the constant walking and climbing was not only time consuming but also tiring!” Said Hannah.

“This was supposed to be fun and all we have found so far is aches, pains, cuts, scratches, bruises and not to forget that our lives had been threatened!” Said Sam.

“I am beginning to think treasure hunting is not as fun as we thought it would be,” said Tom.

“I know what you are both saying. We had more fun sitting in the cemetery reading horror stories,” replied Hannah

“You can’t be serious Hannah? Aren’t you ever scared there may be ghosts?”

“Come on Eliza everyone in that cemetery is either one of our grandads or granmas! Said Tom.

“I suppose so but it would still creep me out,” said Rachel.

“What if the hoard is buried there?” Said John Adams.

“No we know for sure it isn’t,” said Sam.

At that moment Hannah and Tom looked at him as if he had just about to let out their secret.

“I mean that would be creepy. Putting your treasure in amongst the dead bodies. There isn’t much room in those old coffins anyway!” Said Sam trying to correct himself.

“Yea! Can you imagine digging up a grave and having a ghost grab you and pull you in?” Said Frank laughing as he said it.

“Frank! That is creepy! Eeeeyu! Shudder that thought,” said Eliza.

“How long are we going to keep looking for this long lost treasure that may or may not be here Hannah, there are far more interesting things that I rather be doing on a hot summer’s day?” Asked George.

“Yes I haven’t swam or fished since we started this search and summer is almost over,” said Sam.

“And I’m falling behind on my reading,” said Eliza.

“Why am I getting this feeling that nobody wants to continue with this quest?” Asked Hannah.

They all looked at each other then they all started laughing at the same time.

“I guess we are all in agreement?” She said laughing with them.

“We had a good run while it lasted,” said Tom.

“Yes we certainly know every inch of this place,” said Rachel.

“And a few miles more!” Said George.

“But we can’t just break up the club. I have enjoyed our summer friendships,” said Frank.
